I absolutely loved reading this Tansie and YES I am so with you. I have very much let go of expectations of tidiness and anything near perfection. And instead I embrace that my children (and their stuff which is not always as whimsical or aesthetically pleasing as originally intended!) are celebrated throughout. I often find that there is very little point in trying to tidy up after them as it is so little time before everything is undone again. It is just not something I am willing to prioritise. Having
said that, I am also cleaning the house once every couple of weeks, today was the day and it does feel nice for things to be relatively under control (until tomorrow morning!) xx
Ah, having a whimsical home is always just out of our reach! I totally agree with having a clean home throughout the day on my priorities list. We do a proper sort-out and clean-up every few weeks, too, and it's so lovely for the first few hours!
Ps I have lovely memories of my childhood home, it was always filled with things and certainly not immaculate but warm and cosy. And thinking back, I still can’t believe that my mother allowed me to paint my room lime green when I was a ‘tween’! xx
Hahaha lime green!! wild. She was a brave woman. My mum actually wrote me a message after reading this article and said that it was often hard for her to see me do my room up in ways different from her own style. The amazing thing was that she never let on! She could see how much I loved being creative with my space and just let me run with it. She did however draw a line on putting posters on walls. If I wanted pictures up they had to be framed.
Ah she sounds like a brilliant woman, amazing to let you run with it. I have to say my walls were covered in posters but I absolutely appreciate your mother’s opinion on this and would be very inclined to have the same guideline for my children (having already seen some paint peel off after stickers were applied to the walls!). Perhaps a cork board for posters would be a middle ground?! xx
I feel this dance between chaos and beauty Tansie. I too want my children to feel deeply connected to their home space and surrounded by what they love. We recently moved our kiddos into one bedroom so as to create a dedicated playroom to keep all their things. They naturally spill into the living room and beyond but having a place to go back to at the end of the day brings me mental peace of mind. Our little house is brimming with our children's art too and I love being surrounded by their creativity. Our house isn't Pinterest worthy but it is absolutely, authentically us.
Yes, you're right, it is a dance. it would be nice to have a designated place to keep their things, even if they take over the house during the day! It's definitely good for the mind to wake up to less chaos! Haha yep, not worthy for Pinterest but worthy for your children!

Always heart warming to read and leaves me with a smile on my face
